I made it through three of the four days of camp. I didn’t bail out, but rather had to leave early to come home and mother the punks.
I really had fun, mostly because I got to just hang out with my friends and the responsibilities were minimal! I already volunteered Doug to be the camp nurse next year…and of course, I will be his assistant. It will be super fun!
I did the big swing, which is like one of those things at cedar point where the harness you in and crank you back and you release yourself, and totally feel like you are falling to the ground. I did it with a friend from college, Val. I haven’t seen her in forever and on the first day I was standing at the lake watching the kids take their swim test and she walked down! I was like, VAL!!!! It turns out she was even in the same cabin as Avery’s group. It was crazy because there was another guy there too, Bill, from college, and he, Val and myself were all on the cheer squad together. I can hardly believe we are all basically middle aged now. Good grief!
There was a horrid head lice issue the first night, and we had to do a whole camp check, and five kids had to go home. Their parents were called at 11pm to come and get them. What a nightmare for the camp staff and the poor parents…
It was totally necessary, though, because some of the activities use helmets and the kids share and gag!!! I had to olive oil my head and lice comb it out when I got home just so I could be assured that I was lice free. I did the same for Avery. When she came home today we had her laundry in the washer, head checked for lice, showered and clean clothes, and hair dried and fixed within an hour. Thankfully she was lice free too.
Avery was funny at camp because she was so tired and ate so much junk food that she was a total beast. Super grouchy and kind of hateful…but she came through and danced a lot and had fun.
I won the limbo contest for the adults…last adult in. I think I tore my back muscles in half. Sheesh.
I took my camera and took a total of four pictures. Lame.
Down hill slide now to school. Two weeks. What happened to summer?
